Comment: Baicalin is one of the principal bioactive phytochemicals present in the Chinese herbal remedy made from Scutellaria baicalensis. It is also present in other skullcap species. Baicalin-containing remedies are traditionally believed to promote anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.

Bioactivity Comments
X-ray crystallographic studies have identified baicalin in complex with human cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) [2] and ecto-5'-nucleotidase (CD73) [1] proteins. These interactions could in part explain baicalin's anti-inflammatory activity, through inhibition of cGAS, and/or modulation of purinergic signalling to immune cells via the CD73 interaction.
