This protein forms the Fc or constant domain of IgE antibodies. This domain interacts with Fcε receptors to induce an immune response but is not involved in antigen recognition. Fc ε is the molecular target of the anti-IgE monoclonal omalizumab that is an approved asthma therapeutic.
