Approved drug PDB Ligand
mirabegron is an approved drug (FDA and EMA (2012))
Compound class: Synthetic organic
Comment: Mirabegron is a β3-adrenoceptor agonist muscle relaxant. It has been reported to exert effects on cellular metabolism in adipocytes. This latter action is β3-adrenoceptor-dependent, and improves glucose handling in vivo [5].

Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Mirabegron is approved to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of frequent or urgent urination and urinary incontinence. This drug may be used as an alternative to antimuscarinic drugs for this indication.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Mirabegron is a β3-adrenoceptor (β3-AR) agonist. β3-AR is the predominant AR in the bladder [7,9]. Activation of β3-AR relaxes the detrusor muscle in the bladder wall [1], which allows the bladder wall to remain distended. This action facilitates an increase in bladder capacity allowing increased urine storage and delaying the sensation of urinary urgency.
