Diclofenac is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but is also used to treat other conditions which benefit from the analgesic and antipyretic properties of NSAIDs.

In addition to inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis (via inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2; prostaglandins normally sensitize nociceptors), diclofenac appears to inhibit leukocyte migration at inflammarory sites.
