Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Sympathomimetic used to relieve nasal congestion and eye irritation. In July 2020 an opthalmic solution containing oxymetazoline hydrochloride (Upneeq®) was FDA approved as a treatment of acquired blepharoptosis (droopy eyelid).
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Agonism of alpha-adrenergic receptor in the arterioles of the conjunctiva and nasal muscosa produces vasoconstriction. This results in decreased conjunctival congestion in ophthalmic mucosa, while in the nasal mucosa constrction results in decreased blood flow and decreased nasal congestion.
