GtoPdb Ligand ID: 13681

Compound class: Peptide
Comment: Consomatin Fj1 is a cyclic decapeptide produced by the marine cone snail Conus fijisulcatus. It is proposed as naturally evolved analogue of an endogenous somatostatin (SST)-like signalling peptide. Consomatin Fj1 acts as a mimetic of the endogenous human hormone somatostatin, and is an agonist of the SST4 receptor that promotes G protein dissociation from the receptor [1].
SST4 is expressed by peripheral sensory neurons and SST4-mediated antinociception is being pursued as a promising mechanism for non-opioid pain relief.

Bioactivity Comments
In vitro, consomatin Fj1 is >170-fold selective for SST4 compared to SST1, and has no detectable activity at the other three SST receptor subtypes [1].
