Synonyms: 7-D-glucuronic acid-5,6-dihydroxy-flavone | Baicalein 7-glucuronide | compound 15 [PMID: 37666112]
Compound class:
Natural product
Comment: Baicalin is one of the principal bioactive phytochemicals present in the Chinese herbal remedy made from Scutellaria baicalensis. It is also present in other skullcap species. Baicalin-containing remedies are traditionally believed to promote anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.
Ligand Activity Visualisation ChartsThese are box plot that provide a unique visualisation, summarising all the activity data for a ligand taken from ChEMBL and GtoPdb across multiple targets and species. Click on a plot to see the median, interquartile range, low and high data points. A value of zero indicates that no data are available. A separate chart is created for each target, and where possible the algorithm tries to merge ChEMBL and GtoPdb targets by matching them on name and UniProt accession, for each available species. However, please note that inconsistency in naming of targets may lead to data for the same target being reported across multiple charts. ✖ |

Bioactivity Comments |
X-ray crystallographic studies have identified baicalin in complex with human cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) [2] and ecto-5'-nucleotidase (CD73) [1] proteins. These interactions could in part explain baicalin's anti-inflammatory activity, through inhibition of cGAS, and/or modulation of purinergic signalling to immune cells via the CD73 interaction. |
