Orphanet: ORPHA703

Targets

semaphorin 4D (CD100)
Role:  Sema4D expression is elevated in the serum and blister fluids from patients with bullous pemphigoid. The Sema4D shed from CD15+ granulocytes from these patients drives B cell activation and production of autoreactive antibodies against transmembrane collagen. Destruction of the collagen matrix causes separation of the epidermis and dermis and blister formation.
