Immunopharmacology Comments |
Synthetic abscisic acid analogues are hypothesised to offer anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic potential [6,8]. The expression of LANCL2 in epithelial and immune cells suggests a potential role in modulating mucosal immune responses. To investigate this hypothesis synthetic LANCL2 modulators are being examined for potential benefit in models of inflammatory bowel disease [2-5]. |
General Comments |
The LANCL2 protein has been shown to bind abscisic acid, an autocrine signalling molecule that is produced by human granulocytes, and by human and murine pancreatic β cells [8]. Cellular abscisic acid signals are mediated by a membrane-associated LANCL2/CD38 complex, and evidence exists that signalling is transmitted via a pertussis toxin-sensitive Gi protein. |
