GtoPdb Ligand ID: 9902

Immunopharmacology Ligand
Comment: Semaphorin 3A is a secreted class 3 semaphorin. It is a ligand for neuropilin 1. SEMA3A has an immunoglobulin-like, C2-type domain, a PSI domain and a Sema domain. This peptide is critical for normal neuronal pattern development. Increased SEMA3A expression is reported on some tumour cells [1].
Species: Human
Immunopharmacology Comments
Class 3 semaphorins are important for immune modulation, angiogenesis, apoptosis and invasive cell migration, all of which are processes relevant to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) pathology. SEMA3A mRNA expression is significantly up-regulated in fibroblast-like synoviocytes by the inflammatory mediators TNF, IL-1β and LPS [...], and SEMA3A induces the migration and invasive capacity of fibroblast-like synoviocytes from RA patients, suggesting that pharmacological inhibition of SEMA3A could be a novel anti-RA therapeutic strategy [2].
