Summary of Clinical Use
Used clinically to correct hemodynamic imbalances present in shock syndrome due to myocardial infarction, endotoxic septicemia, renal failure, open heart surgery and chronic cardiac decompensation.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Dopamine-induced activation of β-adrenoceptors and release of norepinephrine from sympathetic nerve endings causes positive chronotropic and inotropic effects on the myocardium, which include increased heart rate and cardiac contractility.
