Eletriptan has high affinity for several subtypes of the serotonin 5-HT1 (specifically 5-HT1B, 1D and 1F). Eletriptan works by causing either drug-induced vasoconstriction of intracranial blood vessels and/or inhibition of pro-inflammatory neuropeptide release from sensory nerve endings in the trigeminal system.
